Hamburg

Getting to know Hamburg through a local (in the form of my very good friend, Bente) and also as a tourist, there was just one thing I needed to see in the city. We had touched upon this briefly on my first day in vibrant Hamburg when Bente immediately took me to a sex shop that really opened my eyes in terms of my view on German People. It was the naughty and bohemian side to Hamburg I wanted to see. Take m to Bohemian Hamburg., I cry! Street art, abstract buildings and a range of unsavoury characters that lurk on every street corner really is the epitome of the secret side of Hamburg, slightly forgotten by its residents.

As it was our last day in Hamburg before we travel to another German destination, Bente took me to Sternbrucke, an area where happening hipsters hang out (how much does a hipster weigh? An Instagram!) and where cheap deals can be found in the buzzing cafes and also in the crowded unique shops.

I was entranced. The colours swirled across my eyes and I did feel like I was transported back in time to the 1960s. Old fashioned, yet modern with the cusp of a new wave of bohemian hitting the area, there was always something going on to overwhelm the senses. Perhaps I should let the pictures do the talking.

Completely stickered, the lampposts are immune to bohemia

The pub behind this bike is famous for appearing in fantastic films, can anyone guess which are they?

Even the Liberal Vibes are in the air as Bente bids her housemate farewell

So as we went to grab a spot of lunch at Cafe Kostbar, a nifty and cosy Moroccan style cafe, to fill our tummies up for the journey to our next German destination, I ordered a burger. But little did I realise that the Bohemian vibe would continue into my lunch. Bringing out my burger, I saw a message discreetly placed on my dish. It was almost like a fortune cookie but really summed up how I felt about my stay in Hamburg. What was it? Just take a look and smile with me.
