Like a glittering jewel in the sceptred crown, Schiphol Airport can boast to have the best Airport Business Lounge in the world! And you know what? I’m inclined to heartily agree with gusto.  The KLM Business Crown Lounge flies the blue flag on top of the Mezzanine level between Lounges 2 and 3 on the Holland Boulevard, only the entrance in view to intrigue your inquisitive mind of the mystery of what lies behind the smiling staff at their reception. I was to find out for myself during my #24SchipholKLM Campaign as KLM UK tasked me to find out what exactly is there for the passenger to see and do in their unique premier lounge.

Check In

KLM

‘Hello Sir, what can I do for you today?’ a smiling receptionist greeted me with a winning smile as I handed over my Lounge pass to be processed. I was already relaxed. A smile really does go a long way with first impressions and she continued to smile as she asked if it was my first time here. Nodding my head, she gasped that I was in for a treat! I couldn’t help but smile with her as she excitedly and enthusiastically told me what was there to do in the Crown Lounge. Scanning my pass, she bid me good day and told me to come back if I had any questions.

First Impression? – Courteous, friendly, efficient and winning!

Rest Areas

KLM

As you step inside the Lounge, you’ll see that you won’t have to worry about getting a seat. There’s literally thousands of comfy chairs of differing styles that stretches alongside a panoramic window view of the runway and taxi-ing planes. All of the seats had its own little table and also a charging point where you could charge up your mobile or laptop. Some of them may even have their own lamp. I thought the seats were comfy, very well-laid out, and very convenient with all the essentials in mind for the travelling passenger.

Food and Drink Buffet

KLM

There are two main buffet areas within the KLM Crown Lounge. Each are well stocked for all meals that are regularly filled and staffed throughout 24 hours. During my six hours in the Lounge, I helped myself to a variety of fresh breads, cheeses, meats, eggs and salads. All truly delicious and fresh. Also, you could help yourself to a range of drinks, non-alcoholic or alcoholic.

Entertainment

There are a variety of televisions scattered around the lounge where you could tune into. However, I did feel the entertainment was lacking but the Crown Lounge offers a relaxing and private experience for the passenger.

Changing Facilities

There are showers and changing rooms in the Lounge. I didn’t use the facilities but I did get chatting to a fellow passenger who used them and he gave a brilliant review of the warm power showers. Essentials such as shampoo are provided.

WiFi

During my 24 hours in Schiphol Airport, I did have several issues trying to connect with the WiFi. However, as soon you walk into the Business Lounge, you will be connected to their own WiFi service with its own password that is given out once you are checked in. The WiFi was quick and absolutely fantastic!

Work Spaces

KLM

If you are in transit and you’ve still got work on the brain, KLM Crown Lounge will be able to offer you a chance to use their work spaces. Full of smooth desks, private cubicles and computers for you to log on, this is the perfect opportunity to catch up with your job. There are also printers, fax machines and photocopiers to hand.

The Small Things

I often say that to make an experience complete and enjoyable, it’s always the small things. For the KLM Crown Lounge, it was the international newspapers in different languages. I could grab a paper from home or I could scan through other countries’ to see what is happening in the world.

Customer Service

I can’t really fault the customer service. As I touched upon it briefly in my last post, I found out that my outgoing flight was cancelled therefore I had to be rebooked on another one. With many people in the same position, I was carefully looked after by the customer service staff, using deaf awareness, who ensured that I would be seen to when the tannoy announced my ticket number. Then I was rebooked on a different flight expertly, efficiently and enthusiastically with a smile at their desks! They also asked if I needed anything else and wished me a pleasant stay in the KLM Crown Lounge.  Very nice touch indeed!

KLM

All in all, I couldn’t be more pleased about the experience. In terms of the review of the KLM Crown Lounge, I am giving it 5 out of 5 stars. It was the friendliness of the staff that truly clinched the top ranking result and I look forward to be experiencing the Lounge again in the near future! It can’t come soon enough!
