"Hello again!"

With the popular Titanic meme in mind saying this in the way 'it's been 84 years...', I have to confess, it's been a while since I last properly posted on this blog. 4 years, in fact.

Post-covid, after a period of not being able to travel, I soon found myself swung into a life back in my hometown and this blog has always been in the back of my mind to say 'yes, I need to write about this...' but I never did. Perhaps it was a mixture of that my life as a backpacker had ended, I didn't have ongoing travel stories to write about, taking a break or quite simply, I was reconnecting back at home and discovering the 'home adventures' I was about to undertake.

And by home adventures, there has been a lot that happened in the last four years - and I'm not just talking about the sprouting grey hairs in my hair that have taken me by surprise in the last couple of years.

So, what's happened since then?

  • I moved back to my hometown of Hull and it was truly brilliant to rediscover just how great the city and East Riding of Yorkshire really is! (more on this soon) through my love of hiking and walking along national trails such as the Hornsea Rail Trail, the Burstwick walk, Spurn Point Trail and more.
  • I am now in a 4 year relationship with a truly amazing guy called Thomas who's just as dorky and weird as I am - you'll be finding out much more about him soon.
  • I am also a proud parent...to a gorgeous young (and fast growing!) labradoodle called Sandy who has become my literal world since we first got her as a puppy.
  • Pre and post COVID, I still took some rexyedventures abroad away to South Africa, Hungary, Latvia, Cyprus and Cape Verde abroad and also in the UK in the Yorkshire  Dales, Wales, Yorkshire Wolds and more.
  • I'm now working full time as a Digital Marketing Manager for one of the best marketing agencies in the local region.
  • I challenged myself through activities that people would think deaf people cannot do such as signing up to a rugby team and also undertaking the Strictly Come Dancing Hull version in front of thousands at the local city hall.
  • I'm in the process of renovating my house and garden  - room by room with brilliant results.

One of the big reasons why I moved back home from London was to look after my parents who both had some serious medical issues. And I'm glad I did. It meant that I got to get much needed invaluable time with my dad, who passed away some months later.

It was an utterly devastating time and it still holds with me to this day - but now with fond memories of my time with him as a child, teenager and an adult - laughing, having fun, sharing the worst dad jokes and the values he has instilled within me. Often, even today, I would seek his advice and I just know what he will advise me to do even if I don't agree with it, but he's right - always look on the bright side of life. And I will.

Now, I am supporting my mum with me at home and looking after her while I'm undertaking my 'home adventures'.

Now, you may be asking...

Just what exactly is 'home adventures'?

This blog will change. Not only still I talk about my international and national travel experiences but also life experiences. There's been a lot of 'adulting' in the last few years - hence the grey hairs. So, I introduce you to my life as I begin to enter my fourty something years - including travel, house, gardening, deaf experiences and even dog dad life.

So, bear with.

I may have instances where I may not even blog a while but I'm determined to re-introduce myself to my blog - the dorkiness of it all. Firstly, I'll share with you just exactly what I've been up to in the last couple of years and then what's happening now.

But keep an eye out. We'll get re-acquainted, you and I. You were missed.
